The Alpha Course
Alpha is a space for anyone to have an honest conversation about faith and meaning in community.
Alpha is an 8-10 week small group experience designed for anyone and everyone to explore questions about spirituality, the person of Jesus, or faith.
While Alpha speaks to a Christian perspective on these questions, it is designed for people of all faith backgrounds, or none at all — and for those who who are skeptical or have been hurt by religion.
Alpha is a community and a conversation.
Each week we gather for refreshments and conversation. We watch a short video or hear a talk on an important topic, questions like: Is there more to life than this? / What about evil? / Why did Jesus Die?
After the talk, we have small group discussions — where there is no obligation to say anything, and there’s nothing you can’t say. Towards the end, you’re invited to a half-day retreat — the Alpha Weekend — where we spend time learning about the Holy Spirit.
This summer 2024 course will meet at Frog Level, where it is difficult to make safe childcare available. But if childcare would keep you from coming, please let us know.
We expect our next course to offer free childcare.
Food
Every night begins with some light conversation over a meal as you get to know others in the group — come hungry.
Film
Each week, we will watch a film (usually ~25 minutes long) to inspire conversation around a particular questions of faith and meaning. ie. “How and why should I pray?” or “How can I resist Evil?”
Discussion
This is the best part of the evening. After the film, we discuss what our true thoughts are. While the films give a simple Christian perspective, you’re invited to share your thoughts and experiences no matter what faith background you’re coming from. There’s no pressure to say anything, and there’s nothing off limits (really). This is a chance to hear from others and share your honest opinions.
Is Alpha for me?
Alpha is a series that explores the Christian faith. While it is a tool that has proven to be helpful for anyone on their journey, it is designed for those who wouldn’t consider themselves Christians, who struggle with the church or Christian faith, or who are asking big questions about God and things of ultimate meaning.
Alpha is for:
- Those wanting to investigate Christianity.
- Curious people who just want to make new friends.
- New Christians.
- Anyone wanting to understand a friend’s faith better.
- Newcomers to the church.
- Those wanting to be baptized.
- Those wanting to brush-up on the big ideas.
- Skeptics to Christianity who want to get a clear and honest understanding.
Topics for Conversation
If you would like to explore any of these questions, then Alpha is for you. If you’re not sure, come to the first night to get a taste! There are never any obligation or pressure to come back if it’s not for you.
