Hello Vine,
Throughout the liturgical calendar year, our hearts are shaped by the story of God’s rescue of a fallen world, and His love for us. This is the Truest story there is, and the Anglican way of worship tells it in many acts — Christmas, Pentecost, Advent, etc.
Look below for a list of upcoming unique services between now and Easter Sunday. I want you to set aside these services — yes, all of them if possible! — to gather and tell The Story together in unique ways. We are approaching our next adventurous turn in The Story.
We begin with Ash Wednesday on March 5th, and then the five Sundays in Lent. These services prepare our hearts by focusing us on repentance and reflection on our need for rescue. Holy Week furthers that preparation as we walk — even embody! — moments along the way of Jesus’ Passion. By the time we get to Easter, marshmallow birds and chocolates become incidental (though tasty) as we wholeheartedly celebrate the power of Jesus’ resurrection in the world and in our individual stories. This Lent-through-Easter path is an adventure every year.
I can’t help but channel JR Tolkien’s Bilbo Baggins at this point: “I think I’m quite ready for another adventure!”
God’s peace on your home,
