When Jon and I first joined The Vine twenty years ago, our boys were ages 4 and 6 – I have been plugged into Children’s Ministry at the Vine for most of the years since. Twenty happy years later, it’s hard to believe that our kids are grown and live far away! This church body has encouraged us and our children more than I can say through its consistent vision for Children’s Ministry:
To inspire, equip, and supplement parent-led family-based discipleship.
You might read that vision statement, and wonder “what is going on if the goal is for parents to do the heavy-lifting?” I’m glad you asked. 🙂 I’d like to take a moment to share an update on what’s happening in The Vine’s Children’s Ministry.
Two Sunday Morning Classes:
Nursery (ages 0-3) & “Life Lessons” (ages 4 yrs-4th grade)
Every Sunday morning, the children’s lessons follow one of our lectionary scriptures. So, they almost always hear and discuss something their parents hear in worship. This flows out of our vision, and a wonderful way for families to talk about God together.
A question you can ask after church: “What did you learn about God today?” followed by “Wow, we talked about the same thing!”
Children’s Ministry Assistants
We have hired two weekly assistants – these new assistants provide a consistent week-to-week presence, and help to make our volunteers’ work more sustainable. THANK YOU for your generous volunteerism that carries our Children’s ministry (and will continue to). Now, instead of FOUR volunteers needed each week, we now need TWO volunteers each week.
If you’d like to join the rotation, contact us.
Children’s Discipleship Coordinator JOB OPENING
You may have noticed that we have job description on our website for a Children’s Discipleship Coordinator. I am in fact trying to replace myself! The work this job description represents has been a volunteer position for some time, and our growing children’s rooms require a person with designated time each week to pray, plan, think, and act on behalf of our kiddos, in partnership with our pastoral staff – in other words, a staff position I will help to transition toward.
Check out the job description and share with others.
“Children’s Corner”
Also, something we have not done in a while: Children’s Corner in our Think on These Things newsletter. The Corner returns. Stay tuned each week to find a nugget of input – some fun activity to do as a family, a link to a blog or article we think can inspire, equip or supplement parent-led family-based discipleship, or something else entirely!
What would you like resourcing for?
The more things change, the more they stay the same – and for things to stay the same, they must change. The above represents some of each. One thing that will not change is that we will continue to love and care for your kids while supporting you – grandparents, friends, parents – their primary disciplers. If you ever wonder what’s happening in Kids’ ministry, or how you can get involved, just ask!
